At the trainers’ discretion, you may participate in both contact boxing and Muay Thai sparring. Sparring is not required, but it is encouraged as it is the most effective way for you to fine tune your timing. Good timing is essential for self-defense. In sparring, just like in a real self-defense situation, we don’t know what techniques our opponent might throw. Sparring is the most realistic way to mimic a real attack. Therefore, sparring is the most realistic way to practice our self-defense. The reality of getting punched or kicked can be very intimidating even for the most experienced fighter. Our sparring classes are broken into different levels and all students start off slowly and progress from level to level as they become proficient. Students may choose or be asked to drop back a level at any time in order to perfect certain techniques and/or correct bad habits. After you have completed all sparring levels, at the discretion of the trainer, you may be asked to join our fight team. As a member of our fight team you can train to fight in both exhibition matches against our own students and bouts against students from other gyms. |
